ZEN EXCLUSIVE: Amilla Maldives, A Grandeur Playground for All with A Hint of Spontaneity.

Amilla Maldives Resort and Residences formerly known as Amilla Fushi, surrounded by a palette of blue ocean, engulfed in luscious green palms and tall ancestral trees that tower over paths littered in powder white sand, is the embodiment of elegance and irresistible beauty. Nestled in the heart of Baa Atoll amongst seas that hold the most remarkable marine life, the island is also one of the largest found in the country. It has 67 spacious Villas and Residences, but part of their unique appeal is their uniqueness in embracing their Space to Play, in which 70% of the island remains untouched with an abundance of room to explore and according to Hassan Riyaz, the resort’s Sales and Marketing Executive, “the founders kept a lot of the original trees from the time it was built, so it’s very green - you could go on a bike ride without any worry of extra tanning”. Its properties are glorious at best but even after seven years, they still stay true to their initial ambition of creating a “home” [Hassan Riyaz], for visitors and thus build spaces that are high in design yet still contemporary, fresh and intimate. This elevation in properties, facilities, amenities and nature makes Amilla Maldives one of the most sought out destinations in the country and it just keeps getting better as there is plenty more to look forward to.

The prominence and stature that Amilla Maldives holds, usually stems from the fact that Amilla defies the Maldivian rule book in terms of what a resort should be. With it’s unrivalled variety in properties from their stark arctic, crisp white architectural masterpieces that channel the South of France as Water, Reef and Beach Villas, their mansion-like Residences, with the decor highlighting a maritime chic themed home away from home and to their most popular villa option, the Treehouses that are suspended 12 metres in the air and would have you praying to stay in from the exquisity in which it is built, Amilla Maldives truly offers visitors an unparalleled taste of living in the Maldives. Moreover, their reopening after its closure due to the pandemic saw that little touch ups are being made in order to magnify their already ever present beauty.

However, Amilla’s popularity also began from the distinctiveness in which they approach customer wellness and their focus on sustainability and thus, the newest upgrades to Amilla Maldives enhances these areas further. The island’s ever-evolving journey in regards to sustainability continues on with the creation of their own Coconut Processing facility called ‘The Nut’. This is where the island utilise on the bounty produced by their luscious 2,500 coconut palms to create various items including coconut milk, cream, kaijan roofing, cold pressed coconut oil and coconut water for their very own kombucha making etc, reducing coconut waste and pests by at least 80 percent and in the words of the resort’s Sustainability and Wellness Manager, Victoria Kruse, “this will also be a facility where guests can come and learn through workshops as well”

This journey onto a sustainable and environmentally friendly resort also includes their initiative, Homegrown at Amilla, where in which they utilised the rich and heavenly soil produced in the island and created the wondrous Mystique Garden, Sweet Spot for the supple and stunning sweet potatoes, The Plantation with organic bananas, pumpkins and juicy Maldivian papayas, Hydro Garden expanded this year with 22 hydroponic gardens and The Pentagon a mushroom hut. They also have their very own chicken coop, a space inspired by traditional Maldivian decor, and named Cluckingham Palace designed for the most glamorous poultry around. Due to this, they are 100% self-sufficient in mint and almost in basil and other produce. This will dramatically reduce their importation levels and level of wastage and therefore, visiting Amilla would not only assure you of their environmentally friendly stance but it would also in return teach you ways to sustain and reduce wastage in your own homes, in turn help in producing a better tomorrow.
